Set up order routing
Order routing decides which Location should fulfill each item in an incoming order. Set it up when more than one Location can fulfill orders, or when specific Connections, SKUs, or fallback cases must go to a particular place.
The Setup Guide marks this step Recommended. You can skip it if Sqquid does not need to choose a fulfillment Location for your operation.
Create a safe first configuration
Section titled “Create a safe first configuration”- In the Setup Guide, expand Set up order routing and select Open Order Routing.
- Add the Location rule that best matches your normal fulfillment process.
- Finish the rule’s settings. Choose eligible Locations, or use the Connection’s assignment with Connection-assigned location.
- Add conditions if the rule should run only for certain Connections, Sources, or order quantities. Add another rule to handle orders that do not match and quantities left over.
- Add an out-of-stock fallback if ordinary items must never remain unassigned.
- Select Preview routing and test a representative order.
- Save the configuration.
Rules run from top to bottom. Each rule assigns what it can, and the remaining quantity passes to the next rule.
For the controls used to add, edit, and reorder rules, see Configure order routing.
Common starting points include:
- Fewest locations first when you want to reduce split shipments.
- Ranked locations when one warehouse or store should be preferred.
- Closest location when distance to the delivery address matters.
- Route by sales channel when orders from a channel always go to selected Locations.
- Connection-assigned location when imported Shopify orders should keep Shopify’s mapped fulfillment Locations. Check the requirements and fallback behavior.
All Location rules support conditions. Leave a general rule without conditions below your special cases so other orders can still be assigned.
Dropship and pickup rules handle special cases. Pickup is present by default and does not complete this Setup Guide goal on its own. For the full rule order and inventory behavior, read Order routing.
For Lightspeed Retail, the outlet and register selected on the source Connection decide where exported online sales are created. That setting is separate from the Account-level rules on this page.
The goal completes after you save at least one enabled Location rule, dropship rule, or out-of-stock fallback.
Next, decide whether to set up fulfillment and shipping.
